Saving Auschwitz? / Sauver Auschwitz?

Could Auschwitz lose its true meaning and risk disappearing altogether? Visited by over two million people each year, Auschwitz-Birkenau is the Nazi extermination camp most closely associated with the Shoah. This revealing documentary traces the camp’s history since its liberation, chronicling various attempts to exploit or rewrite its past. Declared a site of Polish martyrdom when the museum opened there in 1947, the film explores the efforts by the Jewish community to ensure that Auschwitz remains a Jewish memorial. As the number of living survivors decreases, new challenges emerge including desensitization through mass tourism.
