Discovering Edward G. Robinson

Actor Edward G. Robinson, born Emanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest, Hungary, established his career in New York Yiddish theatre and achieved Hollywood stardom with his archetypal role as the dynamic snarling gangster in Little Caesar. He was a strong political activist and vocal demonstrator against the spread of Nazism, leading him to take part in the historic Warner Bros. picture, Confessions of a Nazi Spy. More than just a biographical documentary, Discovering Edward G. Robinson explores Robinson’s iconoclastic screen image, its contradictory elements and its evolution as the actor aged. Made for British television, this enjoyable ride through his career also features plenty of film clips.
