Phantom of Memory (Das Phantom der Erinnerung)

“What use is remembering?” asks Ilana Shmueli, poet and survivor of the Holocaust. By now it all sounds so trite, hardly bearable. Together with Friedemann Derschmidt, Shmueli embarks on a sweeping, meditative quest for meaning. In the composite sketch of a forgotten officer, they find a momentary surface of projection. The film as essay: Remembrance as aperpetual work in progress.
