MAYA is an Israeli psychodrama that blurs the lines of reality as an ambitious but struggling young actress descends into madness. Kicked out of acting class as a no-talent, Maya catches a break when a well-known Tel Aviv director, Hagai (Gil Frank), awards her the lead in his newest play. Complications arise when Maya becomes romantically involved with her hunky, chauvinistic director. Researching the role as a mentally disturbed woman, she checks herself into a psychiatric hospital, prompting a bitter conflict with Hagai over the authenticity of her performance. Wrestling with the demands of the role, her affair with her mentor, and a roommate’s personal crisis, the traumatized actress finds herself on the brink as she prepares to take center stage at the play’s premiere.
