Will Eisner: Portrait of a Sequential Artist

Will Eisner has been called “cartoon artist over all”. He created a new genre and changed the comic strip into a graphic novel. Among current Jewish cartoonists, Eisner was internationally considered to have the greatest reputation. His comic strip, ‘The Spirit’, is based on his childhood in New York’s housing projects and presents a realistic picture of life in the streets, full of subtle humour. Other works by Eisner have Jewish themes, such as “Fagin the Jew” and “A Contract with God”. The documentary reviews in the most beautiful way Eisner’s life and work through interviews with, among others, Michael Chabon and Art Spiegelman.
