The Barber of Stamford Hill

his poignant short feature, adapted by Ronald Harwood from his 1960 TV play, stars John Bennett as lonely bachelor Mr. Figg, whose Stamford Hill barbershop is a haven in which to regale customers with tales of an imaginary family life. The reality on this Friday evening – lighting the Sabbath candles in his tiny bedsit; a quiet chess game with mute friend Dober – sees him seek out kindly widow Mrs Werner.
