On a Streetcar

A young William Shatner stars as Mark Solway, a bachelor strapped for cash. Through unusual circumstances, he meets an awkward young woman (played by Janet Reid) who shares his love of riding streetcars. In this 1955 production for the CBC drama anthology series On Camera, writer Jack Kuper presents a touching portrait of children of working class Jewish immigrants and their struggles in the dating world. A wonderfully-performed and sensitively-handled time capsule that still charms. Also starring Joan Blackman and directed by Ronald Weymann (who would later produce the landmark CBC shows Wojeck and Quentin Durgens, M.P).
