The Vienna Jewish Film Festival ( Jüdisches Filmfestival Wien) starts on Wednesday, October 7, 2020
The festival’s website states:
The motto of this year’s festival was inspired by the speech of US President Ronald Reagan in 1987 at the Brandenburg Gate. In it he calls on Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to have the Berlin Wall torn down and thereby enable freedom and peace. The Berlin Wall was not the only one to owe its existence to the walls in the minds of the builders. It was built in 1961, just 16 years after the liberation of the concentration camps, which were created as a result of the sinister Nazi ideology.
We can learn from human history that walls of thought sometimes lead to the building of physical walls. The negative effects are much more often hatred, exclusion, violence against groups of a society or war between countries. In many cases there is simply a lack of compassion, indifference in your immediate environment or worldwide.
Which walls would you like to tear down?
The festival will show 25 movies in these main categories:
- 75 years at the end of World War II. 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall
- New Israeli Films
- Jewish personalities
- Focus on woman
The festival was moved from May to October and will be at Village Cinema Wien Mitte. Buy your ticket online. For all the details about the festival check its website for juts the list of films check the festival’s page on this website.
