Cancelled and postponed Jewish film festivals as of March 20, 2020


Due to the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus a number of Jewish film festivals got cancelled and postponed. Here are the ones that I know of that got postponed: 

  1. Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival    Announcement: we have decided to postpone the Judy Levis Markhoff Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival
  2. Carmel Jewish Film Festival – Announcement : “we are sad to announce that the CJFF will be postponing CJFF 2020 at this time. We plan to reschedule when feasible.”
  3. Cherry Hill Volvo Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “Our Film Festival, originally scheduled for March 22-29, has been postponed.”
  4. Festival of Israeli Cinema in Paris Announcement: ’20ème Cette année , le festival a lieu du 22 juin au 30 juin 2020, au cinéma Majestic Passy.”
  5. Film Noir & the Jewish Experience  – Announcement: “Festival will not be taking place as scheduled at the end of March. We will be rescheduling the event to a later date to be determined.”
  6. Gainesville Jewish Film Fest –  Announcement: has been postponed due to concerns about the Corona virus.
  7. Geneva International Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “we have taken the difficult decision to cancel and move the holding of our Festival to the 21 to 24 June 2020.”
  8. Hartford Jewish Film Festival – Announcement:  Let’s Go Virtual … (Menemsha films online)
  9. Honolulu Jewish Film Festival – Announcement: The Honolulu Museum of Art has cancelled all public programming including the Honolulu Jewish Film Festival.
  10. Israeli Film Festival of Philadelphia –  Announcement: “we have decided to exercise extreme caution and postpone all remaining shows in the Israeli Film Festival.”
  11. Jüdisches Filmfestival Wien  Announcement: “We look forward to meeting you in October.”
  12. Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “The LA Jewish Film Festival has been postponed due to the events surrounding COVID-19.”
  13. Maine Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “the MJFF Board of Directors and Executive Director Barbara Merson have made a decision to postpone the 2020 Maine Jewish Film Festival until the fall”
  14. New Hampshire Jewish Film Festival – Announcement: “we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to postpone the 12th Annual NHJFF until a later date.”
  15. New Jersey Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “it has become necessary to postpone our 20th Annual New Jersey Jewish Film Festival”
  16. Palm Springs Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “Film Festival moved to October 4-7, 2020.”
  17. Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “PVJFF, scheduled to run March 25 through April 6, will be postponed until further notice and rescheduled at a later date.”
  18. Rockland International Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “Postponed until July”
  19. Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival – Announcement  “we have decided to postpone the Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival to August 19-23, 2020—same times, same location, same movies!”
  20. Santa Cruz Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “POSTPONED to a later date!”
  21. Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Film Festival –  Announcement: ‘made the difficult decision to postpone the 11th annual Milman-Kover Family Jewish Film Festival EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. This includes all movie screenings and any special events between March 12 and March 22.”
  22. Seattle Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “After much consideration, we have decided not to proceed with the Seattle Jewish Film Festival, March 19 – April 5.”
  23. Sonoma County Israeli Film Fest – Announcement: “we have decided to postpone the remainder of the 2020 Israeli Film Festival”
  24. Tampa Bay Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “The 24th annual Tampa Bay Jewish Film Festival that was set for March 29 through April 5th, has been postponed due to coronavirus.”
  25. Westchester Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “All public film and education programs are suspended until further notice.” 

These festivals got cancelled:

  1. Athens Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “we find it necessary to cancel the Athens Jewish Film Festival.”  
  2. Edmonton Jewish Film Festival – Announcement: “Though the Jewish Federation of Edmonton made the difficult decision to cancel the live Edmonton Jewish Film Festival, all is not lost. Film is a very adaptable format and we will soon announce the launch of The Virtual Edmonton Jewish Film Festival.”
  3. Elgin Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement
  4. Houston Jewish Film Festival  – Announcement: “The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC has cancelled all non-essential programs and closed all facilities, beginning Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 29, which includes cancelling the Houston Jewish Film Festival on its current dates.”
  5.  JFilm Festival (Pittsburgh)   – Announcement: “the Film Pittsburgh Board of Directors and Staff have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel this year’s JFilm Festival”

    The Athens Jewish Film Festival which was to start on Saturday, March 21 has been canceled. Look for us in 2021

  2. Jewish Federation of Grand Rapids Jewish Film Festival, May 3-7, 2020, has been cancelled. We look forward to having our Festival next year in May 2021!
